Football as medium to share knowledge

Altertntivtesxt

Our story began when German football coach Sascha Bauer during his time as coach trainer for YESS project in South Africa visited Cape Town and the GCU Academy in Heideveld. The GCU Academy is a social institution using sport to promote training and development possibilities for children. Sascha decided to support the Academy and founded Football for Unity Worldwide to raise awareness in Germany and to extend support possibilities. His goal is to share his knowledge and to help children growing up under difficult circumstances in their personal development through the joy of playing football.

After founding FFWU as a non-profit organization on 18th March 2010, Sascha trained the youth coaches at the Academy in theory and practice to effectively improve the quality of training. In order to implement newly-learned methods of training on the pitch we donated some of the necessary training equipment to the Academy. This was made possible through fund-raising events in Germany. The cooperation with the GCU Academy was further supported through volunteers from Germany and Switzerland in Summer 2011.

When Sascha became Mozambique’s Under-17 national team coach in July 2011 in the capital Maputo, he met Swedish football coach Cecilia Andrén Nystrom. She ran ‘Futebol dá força’ – ‘Football is strength’, a project with the same philosophy as Football for Unity Worldwide: to use football as a medium to share knowledge to promote young, independent personalities. After an extensive exchange of ideas, we decided to join forces to pursue our common goal together.

Already many children benefit from our commitment and yet we are still at the beginning of our work.
