Where we started

Our Story

Our journey began when German football coach Sascha Bauer, while working as a coach instructor in South Africa, visited Cape Town and the GCU Academy in Heideveld. Struck by the Academy’s mission, Sascha decided to lend his support, leading to the establishment of Football for Unity Worldwide—an organization aimed at fostering awareness in Germany for the Sport for Development movement. Since then, FFWU has evolved significantly. We’ve refined our approach, adapted methodologies, and forged partnerships with new projects across South Africa, Mozambique, Brazil, and Germany. Throughout this journey, we’ve gleaned invaluable insights from our partners and coaches, enriching our collective understanding and deepening our commitment to harnessing the power of football for positive social change.

What we believe in

Our Values

It’s not only important what we do but also how we do it. These are our core values that guide our actions.

Empowerment

Change only comes with strong leaders who come up with new ideas, beliefs and actions. We believe that football coaches can be those leaders. So we empower them to step up for a better future and make a difference.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu is an African philosophy meaning “humanity.” It is often translated as “I am because we are,” or “humanity towards others,” but is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.”

Integrity

Being honest and reliable with yourself und others is a basic human skill to establish healthy relationships. We believe in Fairplay on and off the football field and expect the same from our partners, coaches and supporters.
