Where we started

Our Story

Our journey began when German football coach Sascha Bauer during his time as coach instructor in South Africa visited Cape Town and the GCU Academy in Heideveld. Sascha decided to support the Academy and founded Football for Unity Worldwide to raise awareness in Germany for the Sport for Development movement. Since then we have further developed our approach, adapted methodologies, cooperated with new projects in South Africa, Mozambique, Brazil and Germany and learned so much with and from our partners and coaches.

What we believe in

Our Values

It matters to us what we do and how we do it. So, we truly believe in our core values as guide lines for our actions.

Empowerment

Change only comes with strong leaders who come up with new ideas, beliefs and actions. We believe that football coaches can be those leaders. So we empower them to step up for a better future and make a difference.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu is an African philosophy meaning “humanity.” It is often translated as “I am because we are,” or “humanity towards others,” but is often used in a more philosophical sense to mean “the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.”

Integrity

Being honest and reliable with yourself und others is a basic human skill to establish healthy relationships. We believe in Fairplay on and off the football field and expect the same from our partners, coaches and supporters.
